The NQBB were founded in 2014 under the direction of tenor saxophonist Conor Litten, from a small group of Manchester University music students. Originally called the Not-Quite Big Band, the band grew in the following four years to a point where the original name made absolutely no sense, and NQBB was born.
For those past four years, NQBB have been playing their own brand of jazz, funk, blues and rock on Manchester’s lively student jazz circuit, mixing creative covers with original material, and now – with a 20-piece band and our own selection of fantastic singers – we’re bringing a set of unforgettable tunes from all through the last century to the stage at the Ruby Lounge!
Formed in 2017, Top Deck is an energetic Manchester-based quintet putting a modern, funk-influenced twist on the traditional jazz line-up. Featuring a core line-up of Josh Boroda (sax), Matthew Nairne (trumpet), Sam Davies (piano), Chris Buratta (bass) and Ben Johnson (drums), Top Deck have held a residency at JazzHop in Fallowfield for the past year, and with a repertoire that stretches from hard-swinging straight-ahead jazz and Latin tunes to funk and neo-soul, these lads will be sure to get the night off to a lively start!
Doors open 7.30pm
Top Deck 8.30pm
